Duane
Griffith is an Extension Farm Management Specialist conducting educational
programs in production economics and financial analysis covering
all aspects of farm and ranch business performance. His educational
curriculum includes enterprise budgeting, machinery costing, crop
and machinery ownership versus leasing decisions, and complete farm
and ranch financial analysis. Griffith also develops on farm decision
aids for farmers and ranchers to use in specific analysis of their
operations. These decision aids are typically in the form of Excel
spreadsheets and are available for download from the Web address
listed below. Griffith is also involved in research projects such
as modeling carbon sequestration in farmed soils at the individual
producer level. This project is studying the potential for storing
atmospheric carbon in soils by moving away from mechanical tillage
systems towards no till farming systems. One of the primary questions
individual producers must answer is "Is the change in tillage
practices economical for my operation?" Griffith is also involved
in estimating energy use by type of tillage system for agricultural
operations.
